Participate in the Departure Mass of the WYD Cross and Icon

Would you have liked to welcome the Cross and Icon of Our Lady at the Campo de Marte, but were unable to be there? Don’t worry. On Friday, the 23rd, you will have the chance to participate in the departure ceremony of these sacred symbols. The Mass will be celebrated at Santana Parish. The Cross and Icon will then visit the other dioceses of the State of São Paulo, before traveling throughout the country.

Let us recall the inspiring words of D. Odilo Pedro Scherer, Cardinal Archbishop of São Paulo:

“For us, the Cross is always the person of Jesus himself, the Son of God, who became man and died on the cross out of love for us, so that we could attain mercy, forgiveness and life. The Cross reminds us that Jesus, as the Son of God, emptied himself of his glory to come to us. He lowered himself in solidarity with humankind to stand at the side of each and every person, particularly those who bear the greatest suffering and seem worthless in the eyes of the world.

Christ wants to comfort them in their anguish. In his encounter with man, he became his servant and delivered himself up to be crucified in order to redeem and restore human dignity and hope. The Cross reflects the greatest act of love, the giving of one’s life for those who are loved. And Jesus did this for all of us.

For this reason, we make the holy sign of the cross upon our foreheads and upon our children and we bear the cross with us upon our hearts, as testimony of our belonging to Christ and of our love for Him”.
