Getting to Know Brazil
The largest Catholic country in the world.
A young, cheerful country of continental dimensions, astonishing natural landscapes, profound cultural wealth and a warmly hospitable population. A nation of 193 million inhabitants, of whom 143 million are Catholic, formed by a mixture of peoples from various parts of the world living together in peace and harmony. A territory that encompasses the planet’s largest tropical forests, a 7,367km coastline, magnificent beaches, valleys, mountains, rivers and waterfalls.
This is Brazil, the country that will welcome World Youth Day to Rio de Janeiro in 2013. Blessed by Christ the Redeemer, the enormous monument located upon a mountain top 708m above the city, Rio de Janeiro is now immersed in one of the great moments of its history. Already the destination of more foreign tourists than any South American city, Rio de Janeiro will be one of the 12 World Soccer Cup venues in 2014 and the site of the 2016 Olympic Games.
